Description

We are seeking a Senior Marketing Manager who will drive meaningful engagement with the Discogs brand—building awareness among a new generation of collectors while deepening relationships with our loyal, long-standing community. This person will help communicate the value of Discogs at scale, translating our unique position in music culture into compelling, impactful marketing.

The ideal candidate operates at the intersection of music culture, content, lifecycle marketing, performance-driven growth, and community engagement. 

This is a leadership role for someone who:
  • Is deeply embedded in music and/or record collecting culture

  • Understands collector psychology and motivations, from new collectors to seasoned obsessives

You will serve as a critical bridge between Brand & Product Design leadership and the teams responsible for content, lifecycle, campaigns, and performance marketing—ensuring that everything Discogs brings to market is culturally authentic, highly discoverable, and operationally excellent.

This role is equal parts community steward, growth driver, and team leader.

Compensation
Annual Base Salary range - $125,000 -$135,000

  • Define and drive a integrated marketing strategies that where content fuels SEO, AEO (AI-driven discovery), lifecycle marketing, and performance channels to grow Discogs’ global audience while deepening engagement with our core community of collectors
  • Translate high-level vision into clear, actionable plans across campaigns, channels, and initiatives that balance brand storytelling and performance marketing to deliver measurable business impact
  • Develop and lead the annual marketing roadmap across awareness, engagement, and marketplace growth
  • Act as the internal voice of the record collecting community, grounded in authentic participation and advocacy
  • Maintain deep, current awareness of:
    • Anticipated releases, reissues, and limited pressings
    • Trends across vinyl, cassettes, and emerging collector segments
    • What drives rarity, value, and desirability
    • Cultural moments—past and present—that shape music creation, discovery, and collecting
  • Translate collector motivations —completionism, scarcity, sound quality, cultural significance—into marketing that meaningfully serves audience wants and needs
  • Ensure all campaigns and content resonate with core collectors, new enthusiasts, and music obsessives

  • Build programs that serve the community first, fostering trust, loyalty, and participation
  • Annual Roadmap & Market Expansion: Lead the end-to-end annual marketing roadmap, driving global brand awareness and market expansion by identifying and unlocking new, diverse audience segments such as Gen Z and emerging vinyl/cassette collectors.
  • Market Intelligence: Serve as the definitive internal expert on music industry and collector trends, leveraging deep insights into growth areas like the vinyl resurgence to capture underserved audiences.
  • Full-Funnel Journey Mapping: Develop integrated campaigns that meet users at every stage—from initial discovery and onboarding to first purchase and lifelong collecting.
  • Retention & CLV Optimization: Design and scale lifecycle programs that increase activation and retention, utilizing personalized engagement and behavior-based content to maximize Customer Lifetime Value (CLV).
  • Strategic Content: Deploy content as a tool for education and re-engagement, ensuring users are onboarded effectively and remain active based on their specific preferences.
  • Conversion & Product Synergy: Partner cross-functionally to optimize key product flows and improve conversion rates across the marketplace.
  • Omni-Channel Oversight: Oversee a cohesive execution strategy across email, social, on-platform messaging, advertising, and promotional campaigns to stimulate marketplace activity and community engagement.
  • Scalable Content-Driven Growth System: Establish content as a reusable engine across Search (SEO, AEO, structured data), Lifecycle (CRM, email, in-product), and Performance channels (paid media, retargeting) to drive discoverability, engagement, and retention.
  • Strategic Funnel & Personalization: Capture high-intent demand and power personalized user journeys by developing frameworks that optimize for both human audiences and AI-driven discovery (AEO).
  • SEO & AI Discovery Leadership: Own the marketing strategy for search and AI retrieval, ensuring high visibility and establishing Discogs as the trusted authority in music data and record collecting.
  • Community-Driven Authenticity: Leverage and scale user-generated content (UGC) to harness community expertise, enriching the platform while maintaining a cohesive, expert-level brand voice.
  • Global Brand Integrity: Expand Discogs from niche to mainstream through scalable content systems, ensuring a consistent identity across editorial, partnerships, and PR while preserving credibility with core collectors.
  • Cross-Functional Infrastructure: Partner with Product, Data, and Engineering to align metadata, taxonomy, and content structure for maximum discoverability and long-term technical authority.
  • Operational KPI Ownership: Own and monitor marketing KPIs across content, lifecycle, SEO/AEO, and paid channels, establishing clear metrics to measure and improve marketing effectiveness.
  • Data-Driven Optimization: Analyze performance data and ROI to continuously refine campaigns, messaging, and the overall channel mix for sustainable growth.
  • Strategic Budget Management: Manage and allocate the marketing budget across organic, paid, and earned media, ensuring efficient spend and high-impact resource utilization.
  • Scalable Systems & Efficiency: Build robust processes and systems that improve operational efficiency, measurement accuracy, and total marketing impact.
  • Cross-Functional Strategy Alignment: Partner with Product, Design, Data, and Engineering to align on overarching strategy, optimize user journeys, and enhance technical marketing infrastructure.
  • Visionary Team Leadership: Lead and inspire a diverse marketing team spanning content, lifecycle, campaigns, performance, communications, and community engagement, providing clear direction while fostering a culture of creativity, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Strategic Internal Collaboration: Partner closely with Product, Design, Data, and Community Support teams to align on overarching strategy and enhance total marketing effectiveness.
  • High-Impact Partnerships: Collaborate with the Partnerships team to build and grow relationships with record stores, dealers, labels, artists, and audio manufacturers (e.g., turntables, speakers).
  • Growth Opportunities: Identify and unlock co-marketing and growth opportunities through strategic relationships with key stakeholders across the global music and audio ecosystem.

Supervisory Duties: 
  • This position manages all employees of the department and is responsible for leadership, performance management, and hiring of the employees within its department. 

Education & Experience:
  • Required
    • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, or a related field.
    • Experience: 8+ years of progressive marketing experience, including a proven track record in a global marketplace or enthusiast community. Prior management experience is required.
