Marketing and Communications is the creative and marketing team for Texas Global, showcasing the depth and breadth of the university’s global engagement activities across campus and abroad, supporting the mission of the University and enhancing its reputation around the world through strategic messaging and brand positioning. 

Purpose

The Texas Global Marketing and Communications Undergraduate Editorial Assistant will assist the editorial team with storytelling via print/ audio/ video/ digital content and production of marketing communications. In this role, you will research, interview, report, write, edit and publish articles for the Texas Global Newsroom and assist with the creation of marketing materials for the unit.

Responsibilities

Story Capture and Development  

  • Devise concepts and pitch ideas for Texas Global newsroom stories and blog posts.  
  • Interview and record sources, capture related audio/video, and write stories about current students, alumni, research, and programs.
  • Research story ideas and activities on campus pertaining to strategic geographic regions and initiatives. 
  • Monitor media on CSU sites across campus and other media outlets for story content.  

Writing, Content Creation, Publishing  

  • Write, edit, proofread, and publish informative, engaging content for Texas Global website, related blogs, and forthcoming podcast and video channels. 
  • Interface with content management system to publish stories and blog posts on Texas Global web platforms. 
  • Solicit, obtain or capture, select, and edit photo and video assets to accompany written content. 

Editing and Support  

  • Assist with coordination, approval, and editing of student blog content. 
  • Assist with other writing, content, and research projects as assigned. 
  • Assist with creation and implementation of marketing planning and campaigns. 
  • Collaborate with social media strategist to share content between web and social platforms. 
  • Other marketing-related projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate student in good academic standing with ability to work 12-15 hours per week. 
  • Pursuing a degree with major coursework in journalism, English, creative writing, media/ communications or related field.  
  • One or more years of experience or coursework in writing, content creation, and publishing for the web. 
  • Proven communication skills in English, including grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Demonstrated ability to write concise, accurate, engaging, brand-appropriate content that adheres to AP Style, UT Editorial Style, and Texas Global Style. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. 
  • Proficiency with Drupal, WordPress, Contentful, or other content management systems. 
  • Strong cross-cultural competency; ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with international students, faculty, staff, alumni, and external contacts. 
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and highly organized; ability to multitask, take direction or work independently as needed. 
  • Ability to accept and integrate constructive criticism into writing, editing and production practices.
  • Positive attitude and collaborative instincts.  
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or more years of experience or coursework in writing and publishing for the web.
  • Additional work experience in communications, interviewing, sound recording or podcast production.  
  • Knowledge of basic principles of SEO and/or web content best practices, blog and social media best practices. 
  • Familiarity with AP Style and/or other style guides.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop for resizing and manipulating photo images; Audition for editing sound).
  • Previous experience in Asana or other project management platform.
  • Previous experience in Box or other file storage/sharing platform.
  • Experience working with international populations or experience living, traveling, studying, or working abroad. Coursework or proficiency in a foreign language is preferred. 

Salary

$12.00 per hour

Working Conditions

Work will be done remotely, with mandatory online team meetings weekly. Laptop and peripherals will be provided. Maintain availability during office hours, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., to be scheduled with supervisor. On any day scheduled for work, student must complete no fewer than 2 hours.
