Humane World for Animals, a global leader in animal advocacy and protection, is seeking a Managing Director, Global Web Marketing to lead the organization’s web and digital platform strategy, ensuring all web-based and AI-enabled platforms reflect the mission, brand and credibility of the organization. This role sets and enforces best practices for web content, governance and emerging AI discovery environments, overseeing the ecosystem of organizational websites.

This position partners closely with development, communications, program and country teams to ensure digital platforms support fundraising, education and advocacy globally, while also serving as trusted sources of mission-driven information in AI-mediated environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop best in class web platforms and user experiences that establish credibility and authority for a global audience, while supporting localized language, regulatory, and cultural needs in key countries;
  • Manage a team of experienced web marketers, agencies and/or external resources necessary for larger scale redesigns, rebuilds and platform improvements, as well as regular maintenance. Work with internal stakeholders and vendors to develop a long-term platform stability and optimization roadmap focused on accessibility, performance and conversion efficiency, rather than traffic growth alone;
  • Serve as the primary architect for an overarching web content framework and governance model, and lead team members responsible for maintaining a cohesive, integrated user experience across websites;
  • Manage and develop the web marketing team across all areas, including hiring and training, managing employee workload, completing performance reviews, setting goals and guiding ongoing professional development;
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to set a multiyear global web strategy focused on trust, usability, accessibility and conversion efficiency across the organization’s web ecosystem, ensuring alignment with strategic initiatives and consistent representation of brand, mission and impact across all sites;
  • Oversee enterprise-level web governance and policies—working with stakeholders to evaluate new web content and website requests and alignment on global strategy.  Provide oversight and guidance on every aspect of the website lifecycle from creation to sunsetting, including defining the tools, assets and budget needed to maintain web properties;
  • Regularly evaluate, report on and improve website effectiveness using metrics such as conversion efficiency, usability, performance and clarity of mission;
  • Ensure that website measurement and reporting support both downstream fundraising and advocacy efforts and mission and brand consistency;
  • Ensure content adheres to internal brand style guides and content best practices;
  • Ensure the family of organizations is continuously evaluating and implementing emerging technologies, including developments in AI discovery and search, and applying industry best practices to ensure websites remain accurate, authoritative and clearly understood by both human users and automated systems;
  • Participate in and assist with organization‑ and department-wide efforts as needed;
  • Provide web marketing strategic guidance and support to the organization as needed;
  • Stay abreast of the latest trends and best practices in web platforms, digital governance and nonprofit digital strategy;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Marketing, or other relevant field, or equivalent work experience required;
  • At least 10 years of experience in marketing, with a concentration on web platforms required;
  • A minimum of 5 years of management experience required;
  • Experience executing an online content strategy with a focus on clarity, authority and conversion effectiveness rather than traffic growth alone;
  • Demonstrated AI literacy, including the ability to understand how AI-driven systems affect content discovery, attribution, accuracy and trust, without requiring hands-on development or model training;
  • Experience effectively supporting nonprofit organizations strongly desired, including experience partnering with online advocacy and fundraising teams to support conversion and trust building, without direct ownership of donor acquisition or revenue outcomes;
  • Demonstrated experience with content management systems [Engaging Networks and Drupal experience a plus], online conversion tools, web analytics tools, and project management systems;
  • Proficiency with Google Analytics and Google Search Console, including the ability to interpret data in environments where traffic attribution is increasingly incomplete or indirect;
  • Experience with SEO tools such as SEMrush, Ahrefs, Moz, MajesticSEO, BrightEdge, etc. preferred, with an understanding that traditional SEO is no longer the primary driver of digital visibility;
  • Ability to lead a team of skilled web professionals by setting a strategic vision for the web platform that prioritizes trust, reliability and conversion readiness;
  • Strong problem solving skills with the ability to address urgent issues as they arise while managing longer-term platform risks;
  • Solid understanding of basic HTML required;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of staff management practices and the ability to establish clear accountability and expectations;
  • Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a complex, fast-changing environment;
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills, including the ability to evaluate digital performance beyond simple traffic metrics;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to translate technical or analytic information into clear, meaningful guidance for senior leadership;
  • Demonstrated creativity, initiative and self-direction;
  • Ability to work independently and delegate effectively to team members;
  • Ability to build and maintain strong cross organizational relationships grounded in trust, diplomacy and collaboration;
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality outcomes;
  • Familiarity with and interest in animal protection issues is strongly desired.
