Job Summary
The Director of Marketing (Contract) leads VCR’s marketing function — covering both our core B2B teleradiology services as well as our emerging B2B Software Business, across digital, print, social, product and direct marketing — translating company strategy into integrated, multi-channel programs. This is a player-coach role: the Director personally executes core marketing programs today while laying the foundation for a growing marketing team over time. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Director of Marketing owns brand consistency and channel strategy across the marketing mix.
Essential Job Functions
Marketing Strategy & Execution
- Own and execute VCR’s marketing strategy across digital, print, social, and direct marketing channels, translating company goals into integrated, measurable programs.
- Serve in a hands-on, player-coach capacity — personally executing core marketing programs today while building the foundation for a growing marketing team.
- Ensure all marketing activities align with sales goals and support pipeline generation across the sales organization.
- Develop and manage the marketing budget for programs under direct oversight, track expenditures against approved allocations, and identify cost efficiencies without compromising quality.
Channel Execution: Digital, Print, Social & Direct
- Plan, execute, and optimize digital marketing campaigns including email, paid and organic social, SEO/SEM, and website content and performance.
- Oversee print marketing initiatives such as direct mail, sales collateral, and practice-facing materials.
- Manage VCR’s social media presence and content calendar across relevant platforms.
- Lead direct marketing efforts targeting veterinary practices, including outreach campaigns and lead-generation programs.
Brand & Creative
- Ensure consistent brand voice, visual identity, and messaging across all marketing channels and materials.
- Provide input on promotional messaging and brand alignment for VCR’s industry events and tradeshow presence; event strategy and execution are owned by the Head of Events.
- Partner with the Art Director and other creative contributors to bring campaigns to life visually.
- Monitor competitive activity, industry trends, and emerging dynamics in the veterinary and veterinary radiology communities; bring insights back to inform ongoing strategy.
Team Leadership (Player-Coach)
- Build and lead VCR’s marketing team over time as the function scales, starting in a hands-on individual-contributor capacity.
- Foster a high-performance marketing culture built on creativity, accountability, and continuous improvement as the team grows.
- Partner cross-functionally with Sales and Operations leadership to ensure marketing programs are integrated, well-resourced, and impactful.
Qualifications, Education, and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business or a related field required; an MBA or other advanced degree is a plus.
- 6+ years of marketing experience, including at least 2 years in a marketing management or director-level role; experience in veterinary, animal health, veterinary radiology, or B2B software services strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated success planning and executing multi-channel marketing programs across digital, print, social, and direct marketing, with measurable results in lead generation, pipeline contribution, and brand growth.
- Familiarity with the veterinary profession and B2B software / healthcare marketing; comfort creating content and messaging for DVMs, practice managers, and other veterinary decision-makers.
- Comfortable operating as a hands-on individual contributor while also building and mentoring a team over time, in a fast-paced remote environment; track record of strong cross-functional partnerships.
- Strong project management skills, with experience leading multiple programs and workstreams simultaneously and delivering on time in a dynamic environment.
- Proficiency with marketing analytics and CRM platforms, with the ability to translate data into actionable strategy and clear executive-level reporting.
Cognitive and Physical Demands
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present to internal stakeholders and represent VCR’s brand across marketing channels.
- Ability to manage complex, multi-workstream priorities and make sound strategic decisions under pressure.
- Willingness and ability to travel occasionally for company meetings and industry events (up to 10%).
- The ability to work on a computer for extended periods of time and lift at least 20 pounds.
Working Conditions
- Fully remote position
- VCR provides required computer equipment, monitors, and partial internet reimbursement. Employees must maintain reliable high-speed internet and a professional home office environment with minimal background noise to support effective communication and productivity.
