Serves as a key member of the Farmer Mac’s Marketing and Communications team, with full accountability for internal and external marketing and communications strategies, tactics and implementations that support business objectives.

The position will report directly to the Vice President - Marketing and Corporate Communications and liaison with members of the Marketing & Communications team, internal stakeholders from various departments and external stakeholders as needed.
Where and When You Will Work
Farmer Mac embraces a Presence with Purpose work environment, which allows for flexibility of work location while providing the opportunity for teams to come together in the office with purpose. The position can be based anywhere in the continental U.S. Farmer Mac headquarters are in Washington, D.C., and has a second location in Johnston, Iowa. Core business hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:30 p.m. eastern time. Work outside of these times may be required for planned and unplanned activities to complete time sensitive projects or to attend off-site meetings or events. Periodic travel also may be expected of this position to meet with internal and external stakeholders.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties
- Develop, manage, advise and implement department level internal and external marketing and communication strategies and tactics for the following areas: Finance, Government Affairs/Philanthropy, Operations, IT, Risk, HR and Legal.
- Develop, manage, advise and implement ads, collateral, content, social media, email, speaking topics, talking points and industry event participation to execute channel strategies that support strategic initiatives.
- Develop and refine internal and external messaging and content strategies and tactics that advance Farmer Mac’s business.
- Ensure that all marketing and communications methods are appropriately leveraged to engage target audiences in a distinctive, relevant, and consistent manner.
- Regularly evaluate and report on the effectiveness of communications, programs, and initiatives.
- Maximize our brand’s impact and market value by managing and developing all aspects of the brand in accountable areas.
- Work independently while utilizing matrix resources as appropriate to manage projects and/or programs within desired cost, time and quality parameters.

- Must have proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organization skills.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, or marketing. Other related areas of study or equivalent work experience may be considered.
- 10+ years of experience in a marketing and/or communication role.
- Familiarity with agricultural industry preferred.
Our compensation philosophy is targeted pay positioning relative to peers, our industry, and external markets. Farmer Mac is committed to a compensation program that will enable the organization to attract, motivate, reward, and retain highly skilled and creative talent to maintain sustained long-term performance and achieve the organization’s strategic business objectives. The typical starting salary range for this position is between $150,000–190,000, although wages can vary based on experience and geography.
