Summary: 


Thomas Edison State University’s Office of Career Development is seeking a creative and motivated Marketing & Communications Intern for Summer 2026 to support outreach and engagement efforts. This 15-20 hour per week ($20 per hour), 10-week remote internship is designed to provide hands-on experience in social media management, marketing writing, and visual design, while helping promote career-related events, programs, and resources to students. The intern will work closely with the Office of Career Development Director to create compelling content that increases student awareness and participation.


The intern should have:


- Interest in marketing, communications, graphic design, public relations, or a related field

- Strong writing and editing skills with attention to detail

- Familiarity with social media platforms and trends

- Experience with or willingness to learn design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite)

- Creativity, reliability, and ability to manage multiple tasks

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively


By the end of the internship, the intern will have met the following learning objectives:


- Gain real-world experience in marketing and communications within a university

- Develop a portfolio of written and visual marketing materials

- Strengthen skills in social media strategy, content creation, and design

- Learn how marketing supports student engagement and career readiness initiatives


Responsibilities, duties, and projects:


Social Media & Digital Marketing

- Assist with planning, creating, and scheduling content for social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook)

- Write engaging captions and promotional posts for career events, workshops, and employer programs

- Track engagement and help identify trends or content ideas that resonate with students


Marketing Writing & Content Creation

- Write short marketing blurbs and descriptions for events, newsletters, and web content

- Assist with editing and proofreading promotional materials to ensure clarity and consistency

- Help maintain a consistent brand voice aligned with the Office of Career Development’s mission


Design & Visual Content

- Design flyers, graphics, and digital signage for events and programs

- Create visual assets for social media and email marketing

- Collaborate with staff to brainstorm creative concepts and layouts


General Support

- Assist with event promotion and outreach efforts

- Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for improving communication strategies

- Complete other marketing-related tasks as needed

 

Desired Major(s): Communications


Student Eligibility:

 

- Current NJ undergraduate student

- Current NJ graduate student

- Recent NJ college graduate: must have graduated less than one year prior to start of the internship experience (May 2025-May 2026 graduates)

- A current undergraduate student who is a permanent NJ resident
